I am writing to express my interest in the anticipated kindergarten and first grade positions within the district.  I am confident that my academic background at Michigan State University and my experience as a kindergarten teacher in Grand Ledge, Michigan would make me a great candidate for these positions.

I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Michigan State in 2012, with a teaching major in language arts.  I am qualified to teach kindergarten through fifth grade in all core content areas.  I am also highly qualified to teach grades six through eight in language arts.  I graduated with my masters degree from Michigan State University in the Master of Arts in Education program (MAED) in August of 2017.  My focus area in my master's program was on literacy instruction, with elective courses focusing on special education instruction in the elementary classroom.  These courses encouraged me to push my thinking to new boundaries, looking at teaching strategies and challenges from new views and with deeper thinking than I have done before.

For the past two years, I have worked as a kindergarten teacher in the Grand Ledge Public School District.  During this time, I taught the two-year kindergarten program, with anywhere from twenty to thirty students in my classroom.  This position required strong time-management, great communication skills with students, families and staff, and the ability to meet the needs of each student in my program.  Our district used the Journey’s Reading, Everyday Mathematics (fourth version) and Battle Creek Science curriculums.  I worked hard to implement these programs into my classroom while modifying the curriculum to meet the needs of my students.  I am confident that the skills and knowledge I gained from this position will be a great asset at the elementary level.
